As a Plus sized woman, standing naked in front of a mirror is not my idea of a fun time. However, it does give you an accurate view of those areas of the body which are an asset and those that are more of a liability. There are basic body types for all women, but those of us who are plus sized have some extra curves that can make it a little harder to dress well with style and flair in today’s fashion climate.
Apples
Those of us who are larger at the top or in the shoulder and breast area and smaller in the tummy or thigh area are commonly known as apple shaped.

The Apple body shape is larger in the upper body than the hips
This means that our top half needs more muted styles and shapes to take the emphasis away from our torso, while the bottom half is accentuated to balance the look.
Pears
Those of who tend to be larger below the waistline are likened to the shape of a pear.

If you are in this category you need more, emphasis on the shoulders and breasts to take the eye away from the size of the hips and thighs to create that visual balance already mentioned.
Bananas
Banana shaped women are also known as the rectangular body shape in our smaller counterparts. However instead of angles we have got curves. Unfortunately our curves are all of a similar dimension and don’t generally give us a waist, so our style of dress needs to create an illusion of one. Shirts, Jackets and Tops with a slightly fitted waist area are great for this.

The banana body shape is characterised by a lack of waistline.
Alternatively garments with curves facing inwards will create an illusion of a narrower waistline as shown below.
