Style Tips

Petite Plus women.

Petite in the fashion industry is a euphanism for short. Short women also come in plus sizes. Petite plus women need slim narrow belts. A slight contrast in colours and fitted lines will flatter you but stay with fabrics that are soft and flowing and that fit well. Large and over powering prints should be avoided as should horizontal stripes for most plus sized women.

Tall Plus women.

Tall plus women should avoid tight clothes and skirts that are too short or too long. Play down your waist by wearing your blouses over the pants and skirts and avoid tight belts. However a loose wide belt can be a stunning accessory when you have the height to carry it off.

Pear shaped women.

Pear shaped and round full figured women look great in clothes with vertical lines to make an up and down illusion. Also tunics with asymmetrical hemlines are wonderful for taking the accent off the hips.   V-necks and skirts with slits up the sides are also good. Clothes with padded shoulders are great but too big will make you look like a grid iron player.  Wear long tops that go past your hips. Choose jackets, tailored suits and shirtwaist dresses with straight, classic cuts. Wear lighter colours on top as this brings eyes up. Wear dark pantyhose/stockings  and avoid patterns in them. Vertical, fluid patterns  are the way to go if you want a print in you clothing choices, but  avoid bulky fabrics. Try just below the knee in dresses and skirts although if you have the height a longer skirt length will work as well. Avoid very wide skirts, stay with straight or A line skirts.

Apple Shaped Women.

The apple shapes among us  need to choose long jackets without shoulder pads. Avoid wearing  blouses with fancy details and ruffles and clingy fabrics on top. Darker colours on top will work better for you as the lighter the colour the more it draws the eye. Tops with dolman or raglan sleeves and fit loose at the top and slim down to hug the hips and waist are good. Wear pants or skirts that are pleated to bring the eye down. Choose thin materials like cotton, or cotton jersey for a more slenderising effect. One colour dressing will also be slimming . Flat shoes are best unless you are petite, then wear heels. If your legs are in good shape shorter hem lengths will draw attention away from your top.

Banana shaped women.

The banana shaped woman can create an illusion of curves by wearing more fitted jackets or tops that hug the waist. Prints that curve into the waist line also will create a similar illusion.  Use patterns in your tops or bottoms to add dimension depending on how much dimension you want to have. Round out your neckline with necklaces, scarves and other accessories, and use shoulder pads. One colour  dressing is great if you are a big banana like me, or pants/skirt and shell top in one colour with a fitted jacket
