Accessories.

You are a big girl so it's important to get it right. If you do, you will turn heads in admiration but get it wrong and it is so obvious. Stop focusing on the top or bottom. Think of the whole look, right down to the accessories.

Handbag - You are a big girl therefore you need a big handbag (purse for our American readers). A dainty little thing will look like a pea on a pumpkin, as my Gran used to say. A small item in a large expanse of background focuses attention on how big the backgound is. It is better to have a handbag that is in proportion to the wearer's size.

Hats -  Same goes for hats as for handbags.  Your size makes a statement – let your accessories do the same.  Choose accessories close to the same colour as the clothes you are wearing including your shoes. This gives your body an unbroken slimmer look. Wider brims with a good rakish slant or wavy line (not stiff and straight) will enhance to slimmimng illusion.

Jewellery - Be careful with jewellery though; you can end up looking like a Christmas tree if you wear too many oversized pieces. Use a few tasteful peices of good high quality. The "fat rock star dripping with gems" look is not in!

A few good peices to show you know quality when you see it, will complete the tasteful image

Belts should only be worn by people with a waist! Nothing looks worse that a belt "askew on a barrel" because the wearer is trying to follow fashion without any regard to her body shape. You will end up drawing attention to parts you may prefer to conceal. However a scarf or belt hanging down toward the legs will make the legs appear longer.

Shoes - your choice here will depend on your height and the length of you legs, compared to you torso. If you are on the petite side or appear short in the legs, try to wear a heel. It will help that illusion of balance. Shoes with straps shorten your legs visually, so avoid straps if you need an illusion of longer legs. If you are tall, a low wedge will give that formal "dressy" appearance without adding too much to your height.

Don't be a slave to fashion trends. Stop. Ask yourself does this trend suit someone my size?

Last season the trend was to have a gap between the belt line and your top, leaving your middle bare. So many young woman walking around thinking they were so cool, not realising they looked like they were creating a new fashion term; "The Muffin Look" with flesh overhanging the waistband of their jeans.
